Y'all, it's been a llloooooonnnnnngggggg ass week!!
I overslept yesterday morning and was late for work. Well, technically I didn't "oversleep." I've barely been sleeping at all lately, even with my new meds, and I finally passed out about 4:45 yesterday morning. So, when my alarm went off at 5:30, I apparently hit it and fell back asleep. D literally had to shake me and say my name before I came too. Therefore, I did oversleep, but not because I was sleeping well.
Does that make sense? If not, I apologize. I'm just really wonky today.
I've been invited to a couple of things recently, but have no desire to go. I know that sounds horrible, but it's not for any other reason except for the fact that I feel eternally exhausted.... but still unable to rest. My plans for this weekend?
I don't have any. Sure, I have to go to the grocery store, either this evening or tomorrow, and I'm sure D will want to do something around the house. But, my masterful plan is to try and take it easy and get some rest. I don't know how well that will work out. Then again, that's why they call it a "plan" and not an absolute.
There's also some major plans on my part to get in some major snuggle time with my pups, maybe watch a couple of movies, perhaps finish the audiobook I'm currently reading (The Boy Who Sneaks in My Bedroom Window). I like to listen to it while I cook supper and such, so it may work out. And ever since Dani convinced me to get a library card, the whole "borrowing" ebooks and movies has gotten remarkably easier (the library is right around the corner from my house).
In my future, I also see some form of booze. Wine, whiskey, schnapps.... maybe a bit of them all. I joke.... mostly. But, I do enjoy having a couple of drinks while cooking and/or watching movies, (and throughout the day in general), so you know.
TFGIFF, dude. (Ps: Cuddles with my little guy while we watched "31" yesterday after work). ❤️

I haven't had a library card since I was fourteen years old.
Dani and I tend to listen to audiobooks and podcasts at work. We like to have the background noise, and frankly, we're tired of hearing the same four songs on the radio. We've listened to a variety of things from murder mystery to the story of R. Kelly (dude, it was hard getting through that one and that guy is a serious creep! gives me the heebie geebees.).
We even gave The Shining a go for a little bit, but then realized that might not be appropriate for work (even though, most things around here aren't).
I enjoy it so much that Dani even got me a membership for Audible last Christmas (and it's still one of my favorite gifts that I have received).
Currently we are in the middle of The Perks of Being a Wallflower and I'm listening to Dani's new book, The Great Alone, and it's officially on my list of things I have to read on my own IMMEDIATELY.
With all of that being said, Dani let me know that if I got a library card, that I can download apps on my phone and read e-books or listen to audiobooks through those apps. Apparently, it works just like you would check out a library book, but all digital. I can't explain to you how convenient that makes life.
I stopped at the library yesterday on my way back to work (it's literally right around the corner from my house and on the street I take to/from work every day) and picked up a card. It was both hilarious and surreal to know that I am an official "library card carrying member".
Most people that know me, know that I love books. And if you ask anyone that's ever helped me move, they can tell you how many books that I own (they're not exactly light). But, I'm a book collector. I like to hold them in my hands and read page by page, mark the books when/where needed, and I've never been a big fan of "e-books" (even though I read the last two FSOG books via e-books.... and yes, I know those books are ridiculous).
But, I am pretty into this whole audiobook thing and I'm glad that she talked me into it. Not to mention, D and I can check out movies at the library just like I would an actual book. We swung by last night and picked up four (Wars Dogs, Looper, The Legend of Tarzan, and Mike & Dave Need Wedding Dates), and I created an account online through the library that allows me to place books/movies on hold and when they're delivered to that particular library, they send me a message that it's ready for pickup. Needless to say, I currently have four movies and endless audiobooks on hold.
All in all, I love it and I dare say, when it comes to this, victory is mine.

Obviously my first selection is Harry Potter.... and I have no regrets. ⚡️⚡️
Dani gifted me Audible for Christmas (she's so much better at gift exchanging than I am), and to be honest, I had no idea where to start. With the membership she gifted me, I get one free credit a month (you buy the audiobooks with "credits") and you can listen to any of the "Audible Originals" for free.
There are a million books to choose from (you buy audiobooks for Audible through Amazon) and to say that my "Book Wishlist" was long would be an understatement.
I originally decided that my first listen would be "Dear Mr. You by Mary Louise Parker" because I have loved her since she played Ruth Jamison and since it had been on my wishlist for a long while, I thought it would be a good place to start.
Yeah.... I got about 35 - 40 minutes and gave up. I just couldn't get into it to save my life. The cool thing is though, I didn't "waste" my credit, because if you get a little bit into the book and you don't like it, you can return the book and they'll return your credit without charging you.
Since I was so disappointed with my first choice, I had no clue what my next selection should be. So, I went with my comfort zone and chose.... Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. The fact that I love Harry Potter is universally known by all my friends and family (and some strangers, but that's not the point) and honestly, I can't believe I didn't think to start there to begin with, as it seems like such a no-brainer.
You see, even though I LOVE Harry Potter, I haven't ever read the first book (I know, treacherous), and I haven't even watched the first movie since Manda's Pa took us to see it in theatres when it first came out (and we were ELEVEN years old). Therefore, starting from the very beginning, and then continuing in chronological order, seems to make the most sense. I've been listening to it for one day (at work while I have the office to myself and prefer it over the radio tenfold) and I'm already almost through chapter nine and onto chapter ten.
If y'all need me, I'll be elbow deep into audiobooking HPATSS and probably watching the movie sometime in the next week. Afterall, I Solemnly Swear That I Am Up To No Good.

Filled with staccato bursts of humor and tragedy.
Hello my people. I don't really think that you are "my people" but you're obviously a little bit of the kind of people that I like to surround myself with, so hello!! If you're wondering, I like to surround myself with great, funny, kind people that totally get my weird sense of humor, and just let me ramble. Sound familiar?
Anyways, I wanted to share with y'all the fact that I read a book this weekend. I know that I read a lot, so this shouldn't come as any surprise, but I literally bought the book late Friday evening and stayed up until late last night to finish it. Yes, my little old lady self stayed up late on a Sunday night and still managed to get up and come to work ON TIME. Booyah!! I would've been done with it quite a bit sooner, but unfortunately I had things like going to family functions, some work, eating, sleeping, and showering that to had to be done. You know, normal people things. But I loved it so much, and became so engrossed in it that I just couldn't stop until I had finished it. The book that I'm speaking of?
The Fault In Our Stars.
Yes, I know that I'm a bit late to the party, but you know, better late than pregnant. Unless you want to be pregnant. In which case congratulations and good luck to you! Godspeed!! But me? No. Babies can smell my fear. But, seriously? This book y'all! I had heard many good things about it, but mostly I had heard wonderful things about the movie. I wanted to give it a try, but just like anything else I wanted to form my own opinion about it. Even though the hype is still ridiculous (because of the movie) I decided that it was just time to break down and get the book. I wanted to read it that bad. Y'all it was SO good. And SO sad. If you haven't read it yet, then be aware- SPOILER ALERTS!!
I knew that someone was going to pass away. Then after everyone on the planet seemed to read the book or watch the movie, I knew that it was going to be Augustus. I was prepared for this. I was prepared to feel sad when this happened. However, I was not prepared to feel as sad as I did and to cry. Yes, I admit it. I cried. Not horrible, sobbing, ugly crying, but crying nonetheless. But I didn't just cry when Augustus passed away. I cried long before that, and long after that. It was the way the story was told that actually got me.
John Green makes you fall in love with these characters. Not just one, but all of them. You fall in love with Hazel, Augustus, and Issac. You come to love the parents, Van Houten, and Lidewij. You even love Dr. Maria for acknowledging the fact that even though Hazel has cancer, she is still a young woman. She wants to experience things while she still has time left. She wants to see things and feel things. She wants to be a sixteen year old girl. She knows that she has cancer, and she doesn't deny that it's killing her. None of that information is new to her. But once she meets Augustus and realizes what's out there, she wants to live while she's still alive. This made me cry, but it also made me laugh. It made me laugh quite a bit actually. And it made me think. Have you ever read one of those books that just make you think? I found myself stopping in the middle of a sentence just to think something through. And I loved it.
It's an amazing book. I would/will recommend it to any and everyone that I possibly can. I'm sure the movie is fantastic to, but the book? Oh, I just don't think that it can be beat. Many people hated John Green after they read this or watched the movie. Don't worry, I was cussing him a bit too, but honestly he did it right. He told this epic lovestory that gets interrupted by sickness and eventually comes to an end with death. He told the story that no one else wants to tell. The true story. The truth is people we love get sick. People we love pass away. Even though we would love that not to be true, it is. And not all the time is it pretty. Not everyone gets to pass away at the ripe old age of 98, peacefully in their sleep surrounded by all of their loved ones. Sometimes, people suffer and others have to see the person they love go through things that they never thought imaginable. But their life? How they live and love while they're still with us? Now, that my friends is the real story.
In case you were wondering, I am one of those people that believes in love. True love. Great love. I don't pretend to know it, but I believe it. I believe that it's there. And if we're lucky enough to find it in life, then we only find it once. You can love more than one person. You can love a hundred different people. All with a different kind of love varying from mother to child. Child to friend. Friend to enemy. You can love with everything to everyone. But to be IN love? Now that my friend is something entirely different. And that's what this book shows. It shows great love. From beginning to end, and all that is in between. Love, understanding, suffering, perseverance, honesty, integrity, and great sadness. Be prepared. You will be sad, but it is more than worth it. Read it. Right now. And thank John Green for sharing the story with us.
